Coast Guard seize timber, fertiliser, current nets
4/1/2005

Coast Guard members arrested two pirates and seized current net, smuggled timber and urea fertiliser worth Tk 7.1 million (71 lakh) from different coastal areas in last 15 days till Thursday, reports UNB.
They seized banned nets worth Tk 6.3 million (63 lakh) from the coastal areas of Chandpur, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barguna, Bagerhat and Khulna.
An engine boat with 2,500 sacks of urea worth Tk 0.6 million (6 lakh) was seized from Meghna River after a hot chase. The fertiliser was being smuggled out to Myanmar, Coast Guard sources said.
They also seized different kinds of timber worth Tk 0.17 million while being taken away from the Sundarbans.
The captured nets were torched in front of the local people and fisheries officials. The fertilisers were handed over to local police while timbers to the local Forest Department, said a press release Thursday.
